This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and committed individual to help lead a team within our busy diagnostic service, with specific responsibility for the Molecular testing section.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, quality-focused individual with strong leadership skills for the post of Senior Biomedical Scientist in the Scarborough Acute Service Laboratory within the SHYPS (Scarborough, Hull, York, Pathology Service) Network.
The successful applicant will be a qualified BMS, with MSc, or equivalent and will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operational running of the Molecular Diagnostics Section along with other duties as detailed to support the acute service laboratory.
The post holder is part of the leadership team responsible for delivering a clinical laboratory service that achieves the objectives of efficient and effective patient care, and resource management within the Trust. You will be directly responsible to the SASL Chief Biomedical Scientist in accordance with departmental and Trust policies and procedures.
This is a challenging post for an enthusiastic, well-motivated, forward thinking individual who will be expected to make a significant contribution to the development of the service as we work towards the Acute Service Target Operating Model.
Main duties of the job
o Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Molecular area of the laboratory.o Responsible for managing a small team of Associate Practitioners and supporting Medical Laboratory Assistants and Biomedical Scientists as appropriate to their development in line with the target operating model.o Responsible for deputizing for the SASL Chief BMS when needed, working closely within the wider SHYPS network.o Leading Audits as necessary, producing and reviewing documentation and contributing to incident investigation and management will beexpected.o Must oversee and maintain adequate supplies of reagents and consumables as necessary.o Undertake analytical, technical and administrative trouble-shooting to ensure a reliable fit-for-purpose medical laboratory service is delivered.o Support train, develop and motivate staff to meet service requirements.o Communicate with other senior laboratory staff and clinicians, and service users from within the trust and from external sources.o Demonstrate experience of compliance with standards as required within work duties such as UKAS and other relevant professional and legislative bodies.
