Senior Biomedical Scientist - Automated Biochemistry

Job summary

Applicants are welcomed for the post of Senior Biomedical Scientist in the Biochemistry laboratory at Hull as part of the Scarborough, Hull and York Pathology Service (SHYPS).

The successful applicant will be a qualified BMS, with MSc, or equivalent, and will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Automated Biochemistry section within the Blood Sciences Laboratory. Applicants must be registered with the HCPC and have extensive post registration experience in a Biochemistry, with evidence of CPD in automated Biochemistry.

The section covers automated biochemistry testing.

The biochemistry department has fully tracked Beckman analysers for automated biochemistry and immunoassay, and a Roche analyser for Troponin T. The main laboratory is at Hull Royal Infirmary but there is also a small laboratory at Castle Hill Hospital.

All Biomedical Scientists are expected to be able to participate in the local shift pattern once assessed as competent.

This is a challenging post for an enthusiastic, well motivated, forward thinking individual who will be expected to make a significant contribution to the development of the department.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will take delegated responsibility for day-to-dayoperational matters of the Automated Biochemistry section of the department, and deputise for the Chief Biomedical Scientist on technical matters in their absence.

They will supervise, train and develop subordinate staff, including Biomedical Scientists (BMS), Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLA), ensuring that proficiency and competence and personal and professional standards of that group are maintained.
