Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join a career in healthcare science as a Healthcare Science Assistant / Healthcare Support Worker in Clinical Neurophysiology at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Clinical Neurophysiology is a medical discipline which provides investigations for the diagnosis of a wide range of neurological conditions. The investigations include EEGs, EMG/Nerve Conduction studies, and Evoked Potentials which are undertaken on a variety of patients including adults and paediatrics. It links a keen interest in healthcare science with a passion to work with patients and deliver a good service.

This is an assistant role so the duties will include helping the consultants and physiologists with investigations on patients, maintaining the clinical environment, preparing equipment and patients for tests, in addition to arranging appointments and helping with general patient administrative duties. You will be an integral part of a small, friendly team of physiologist, consultants and admin staff based here in Neurosciences Outpatients.

The successful applicant will start as soon as possible, and with in-house training will learn the main duties of the role.

Working Hours: this post is full time 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm

Main duties of the job

The jobholder will support the overall delivery of patient care as part of a multidisciplinary team.

They will assist the Consultant, Physiologist, or Clinical Scientist in performing specialist neurophysiological investigations for patients of all ages.

They will actively participate in providing direct and indirect compassionate care, under the supervision and guidance of a registered practitioner.

The role includes assisting Clinical Physiologists (Neuro) and/or the Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist with a variety of specialist diagnostic tests and procedures.

They will be responsible for maintaining clean and organised recording environments. This includes:

  • preparing equipment and investigation rooms before procedures.
  • cleaning and sterilising equipment.
  • restoring recording rooms to a safe and tidy condition after investigations.

They will assist registered practitioners or the Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist in preparing patients for their investigations.
