Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Surgical Dietetic Team at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Band 4 Dietetic Assistant Practitioner.

This maternity leave cover post will be part of a small team providing input across the surgical wards (including critical care) at both York and Scarborough hospitals. The teams also provide services to oncology (Head & Neck and Upper GI) and bariatric/ general surgery outpatients.

The department places a strong emphasis on clinical supervision, training and education, including:

  • peer support and supervision
  • well established programme facilitating the training of dietetic students
  • delivery of a variety of rolling training programmes for other healthcare professionals across the Trust, relating to nutritional care
  • opportunities to participate in audit and research

Main duties of the job

Under the broad supervision of and with the support of the registered dietitians, the successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Provide a high standard of health care by assisting in and carrying out a range of individual and group treatment programmes (for which an agreed level of competency has been demonstrated under the direction of a registered Dietitian).
  • Undertake a variety of clinical tasks to support the delivery of nutritional care to patients in the inpatient setting.
  • Manage own caseload of patients allocated by the supervising dietitian, working without direct supervision and undertaking a variety of delegated clinical tasks, in accordance with agreed guidance/care pathways.
  • Undertake a variety of non-clinical tasks to support the Dietetic Service.
  • To offer support to patients through effective communication.
  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
