ST1 Chemical Pathology

Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Trust Grade doctor within our Trust. The post provides an excellent chance to develop a range of skills and gain experience within Chemical Pathology under Pathology services within Cancer and Clinical support Care group. The post would suit candidates looking to build upon their laboratory and Chemical pathology out patient management experience and provide a great foundation for personal development and an ideal opportunity to facilitate step-up to Senior ST grade training. The post will provide cover laboratory duties ward during standard daytime hours 09:00 - 17:00 Monday - Friday.

Main duties of the job

Clinical duties Chemical Pathology:

1. Participation in duty biochemist rota

2. Participation in laboratory and clinical team meetings

3. Reporting and validation of specialist biochemistry laboratory assays

4. Act as part of a multidisciplinary team.

5. Liaison with clinical colleagues

6. undertaking laboratory-based projects- method development & validation

7. practical bench work

8. Follow up abnormal investigations during lab reporting

9. Attendance at CPD sessions- departmental, grand round, & appropriate postgraduate education courses & use the potential of study leave to keep one up to date.

10. Involvement in teaching and training junior medical and non-medical staff

11. Involvement in Quality assurance process- including Internal Quality control and external quality assurance programmes

12. Participation in clinical governance activities including clinical audit and risk management

13. Provision of accurate clinic letters/reports /written correspondence to GP's & secondary care physicians

14. Able to maintain a professional portfolio.

15. Networking with colleagues in Chemical Pathology in SHYPS cross sites

Essential

  • Has achieved MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Eligible for full GMC registration with license to practice.
  • 6 months experience working in the specialty.
  • Satisfactory completion of Foundation Year 1 and Foundation Year 2 post or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Substantive NHS experience. (12 month continuous experience)

Flexibility

Essential

  • Able to participate in duty biochemist rota
