Main duties of the job

What's the Role About?

As an Assistant Healthcare Scientist, you'll be trained to:

  • Perform diagnostic tests such as ECGs, Holter and BP monitoring, Spirometry, and Sleep Studies
  • Upload and interpret reports, escalating urgent findings
  • Assist with advanced procedures including Exercise Tolerance Tests, Stress Echos, and Transoesophageal Echo monitoring

You'll be based at Scarborough Hospital and the new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) near Morrisons, expected to open in January 2026. You may also occasionally travel to Bridlington to support service delivery during staff absence - travel is covered during work hours.

  • Basic secondary education
  • Basic Knowledge of the NHS
  • Certificate in Electrocardiography (or working towards)

  • Working with public and patients
  • Knowledge of Cardio-Respiratory investigations
  • Knowledge of York Hospital IT system and database

special skills/aptitude

  • Ability to communicate sensitive information in a variety of forms to patients, relatives, and carers.
  • Able to undertake complex eyehand coordination tasks such as electrode placement and dexterity and coordination for use of diagnostic equipment e.g. performing ECG on neonate in special conditions
  • IT literate.
  • Sensitive understanding of both adults and children who may be suffering from a variety of medical disorders including those of a complex cardiac nature.
