Within the Trust we are part of Surgery Care Group, which includes most surgical specialties.

Surgical services are located principally at two acute hospitals, York and Scarborough.

The successful candidate will join a team of 19 Consultants in Critical Care cross site. The base hospital will be York but there will be an expectation that some job planned work will take place in Scarborough Hospital.

At York Hospital there is a 22 bedded Critical Care Unit with staffing to support up to 13 level 3 patients at any one time.

The unit is staffed by two consultant intensivists during the day time with one on call overnight.

Main duties of the job

In York there are 12 operating theatres in our main suite (including one dedicated to vascular imaging assisted work). We have a dedicated day unit with 6 theatres and an ophthalmology operating area with two theatres. These are supported by two Post-Anaesthetic Care Units (PACUs). There are also two separate obstetric theatres.

The post can be offered as a pure intensive care job or a split role with time dedicated to anaesthetics.

From those who have a background in EM / Acute medicine / Renal / Respiratory the role is advertised as a single stream job but job planned time in dual speciality can be explored.
