Job summary
Within the Cancer Nursing Team at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, we are looking to recruit a dynamic cancer nurse to the post of Band 6 Gynaecological Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist. This post is based at York Hospital but the post holder will need the ability to travel between sites.
The role requires a registered nurse who can work autonomously within their scope of practiceand support the team to deliver safe effective care to our patients. Furthermore, the appointee must be equipped with excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a diverse multi-disciplinary group of clinicians, patients, and allied healthcare providers.
You must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, organised, computer literate and able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with a commitment to continued personal development.
The principal role of the post holder is to work within a high-quality specialist service to meet the needs of the patient with a Gynae Cancer.
The post holder will provide specialist knowledge and information resources for multi-disciplinary staff, colleagues, patients and families. The post holder will support the physical, emotional, psychological, social and spiritual needs of the patient who has a diagnosis of a gynae cancer.
The post holder will ensure cost effective use of resources.
The post holder along with the rest of the CNS team will work to deliver evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role are:
- Provide a professional, proactive and sensitive service to cancer patients and their relatives.
- Will act as a main point of contact for patients, carers and wider healthcare team to provide (in conjunction with the Cancer Care Coordinator), high quality patient care through proactive identification of needs which require a level of clinical knowledge utilising approved tools and procedures.
- Collaborate and communicate with the wider healthcare team acting as a resource to ensure the provision of appropriate services to maximise the health and quality of life of the patient, improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery.
- Be responsible for the coordination of the administrative function within the complex cancer pathways arranging investigations, appointments and Multi-Disciplinary Team discussion in a timely manner to ensure waiting time targets are not breached and patient's needs are met.
- Will be expected to manage and prioritise the running of the service and work flexibly to the needs of the service, which can often be demanding and unexpected.
