Senior Pharmacist - Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Job summary

Are you ready to use your clinical and leadership skills to improve patient care for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)? Then this may be the role for you!

This new post will be working within an established multi-disciplinary team, you will optimise medicines and provide expertise through:-

Prescribing for patients with IBD and monitoring and reviewing therapy

Participating in the virtual and physical MDT meetings

Developing treatment pathways and auditing outcomes from these.

Liaising with key stakeholders including pharmacy aseptics/ homecare team/ medical day units to ensure streamlined processes for provision of biologics and advanced therapies.

Providing in-reach support for inpatients admitted with IBD

Lead on efficiency agenda including biosimilar opportunities and moving care closer to home.

Provide patient counselling and answer a range of medication queries from patients and the MDT.

It is anticipated that this role will be 90% IBD and 10% of core clinical pharmacy work. You will be supported by the Advanced Pharmacist for Gastroenterology/ Hepatology who will be your line manager.

Development opportunities are available in the department in terms of clinical practice, research, teaching and leadership. There is an IBD pharmacist network in the region that you will be encouraged to join.

Main duties of the job

This is a cross- site with an anticipated 3 days per week at York Hospital and 2 days per week at Scarborough Hospital.

Key skills and attributes we are looking for is an individual who is passionate about patient care and who wants to engage with the MDT to make things better and work to continually improve the service to patients with IBD.

A broad clinical background and experience of prescribing is essential though experience in gastroenterology is desirable but not essential

You will supervise trainee and foundation level pharmacists as part of the role as well as educating the pharmacy and wider MDT on important clinical issues regarding the management of patients with OBD.

This post participates in the on-call and weekend pharmacist rosters.

The post includes participation in working the weekend, bank holiday (1 per year) and on-call (from home) rotas. On call response time to the hospital from home must be within one hour of call if applicable. Please ask for more information.
