Job summary
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of Older Adults?
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Health Care Support Workers to join our Older Adults teams, providing high-quality person-centred care on the following wards:
Ward 28 - Acute Older Adult Care
Ward 35 - Acute Older Adult Care
Ward 37 - Dementia and Delirium
Whether you have previous experience or have never worked in healthcare before, we will help support you on your journey. We are looking for people with good communication skills, reliable and able to work flexibly to join our older adult teams.
As health care professionals we have the privilege of looking after those who can't always look after themselves, for some it's a short stay as they recover from the acute phase of their illness and for others it's providing care when they need it most and giving them dignity at the end of their lives.
We provide a 4 week full time induction programme covering all you need to know to contribute to patient care on our wards.
We would love to hear from you and can guarantee that as a Healthcare Support Worker, no two days will ever be the same.
Main duties of the job
As HCSW you will help our patients to remain as independent as they can be in the hospital setting. Working alongside the wider team you will provide support with Personal Hygiene and Nutritional and Hydration Support, which includes the following:
- Supporting patients to eat & drink and serving their meals
- Helping patients wash and dress, also shower
- Taking patients to the toilet and assisting with personal cares
- Spending time talking to patients, answering their questions where possible and making sure they are comfortable
- Helping patients to get out of bed and move around
- Supporting patients to change position in bed when unable to do so independently
Each ward has a developmental plan for HCSW to transition into a band 3 role at a future time in your career.
Progression from Band 2 to Band 3 is supported through structured development programmes, regular supervision, and access to educational resources. The transition is not solely based on time served but on the demonstration of competence, initiative, and a genuine commitment to patient-centred care. This involves acquiring additional competencies that enable the HCSW to take on more autonomous and specialised tasks. These may include undertaking enhanced clinical observations, supporting patients with complex care needs, and contributing to the development and implementation of individualised care plans.
