Job summary
The Trauma and Orthopaedic Team has a new exciting development opportunity for a Senior Orthopaedic Practitioner to join the team.
The role would be suitable for a senior Registered Nurse or Allied Health Care Professional with experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics who is keen to develop competencies and skills in this highly specialised area.
The successful candidate with work alongside the Foot & Ankle Consultants in orthopaedic clinic reviewing and treating foot and ankle fractures and/or associated wounds working as an autonomous practitioner.
The role will consist of working within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department managing clinic patients at York Hospital and Clifton Park Clinic. The patients attending clinic will be both adult and paediatric, therefore knowledge and experience of both disciplines would be advantageous.
This is a highly satisfying, but demanding role and it is essential that candidates are extremely motivated, proactive, dedicated and have experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

Main duties of the job
- Responsibility for the management of a defined caseload of patients with foot and ankle concerns attending clinics at the Orthopaedic Outpatient Departments.
- Continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinic patient treatments and the setting of standards of care based upon NICE/BOA guidelines.
- Interpretation of x-rays and managing the ongoing care of patients in alignment with best evidence based practice.
- If working as a non-medical prescriber, to initiate and prescribe treatment and evaluate its clinical effectiveness.
- Undertake audit activity and lead on the implementation of service development plans
- Provide clinical leadership within the multi-disciplinary team and provide training for junior members of the team
- Escalation of clinical concerns to the appropriate Lead Orthopaedic Consultant
