Now is an exciting time to join us atScarborough Hospital. We have recently completed a £47 million redevelopment project to transform our Acute, Urgent & Emergency Medical services. We are seekingSpecialty Doctorsto join our dynamic Emergency Department team.
Our newUrgent & Emergency Care Centre (UECC) facility, whichopened on 1st May 2025, is a pioneering, multi-functional clinical space that integrates Emergency Medicine, Resuscitation, Urgent Care, Frailty, Same Day Emergency Care, and short-stay services into a single, holistic footprint. This innovative model promotes a 'working without walls' approach across specialties, supported by dedicated radiology and over 3000 sqm of flexible clinical space.
Above the UECC, a state-of-the-artCritical Care and Enhanced Care Unithas also been developed, further enhancing acute care on the Yorkshire Coast.
Main duties of the job
As a senior doctor in the ED team, you will:
- Act as the responsible emergency physician on-site after hours.
- Manage acutely unwell patients.
- Supervise junior doctors and advanced clinical practitioners.
- Coordinate patient flow with support from the on-call ED consultant.
The rota complies with the new Specialty Doctor contract and includes1.25 PAs/week of protected SPA time, some of which is flexible. You'll be encouraged to lead quality improvement projects and take on departmental leadership roles.
We offer a structuredCESR programme, with opportunities to join after one year in post, subject to review.
About us
We see approximately 70000 non-elective patients annually and provide on-site services that cover the majority of medical and surgical services (with the exception of those usually provided at a tertiary centre). We have a well-equipped and very active postgraduate education department on site, and are involved in extensive training activities for students of all disciplines including Hull York Medical School.
We see the full range of patients at Scarborough, including children, and we have recently upgraded our helipad to enable use 24/7. We are a Trauma Unit and have links with the local Major Trauma Centre in Hull.

We are on the edge of the North York Moors National Park and have excellent opportunities for outdoor activities, both on the water, on our beaches and inland. The town is well connected to the road and rail network with London being less than 3 hours away by train.
