Job summary

This SHYPS Medical Secretary post is based on site at Hull Royal Infirmary, working for the Cellular Pathology Department, providing a full and comprehensive PA and secretarial service to designated Pathology Consultants and their teams.

Main duties of the job

Medical Secretaries are part of the administration team supporting SHYPS Pathologists based at Hull delivering in a busy and time sensitive environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the management and tracking of pathology cases and preparation of reports for weekly MDT meetings, providing secretarial support to Consultant Pathologists including copy and audio typing, liaison with the Lab and clinical teams to progress cases.

As part of the Medical Secretary Team they also collaborate to deliver appropriate cover across the service. Where applicable they will provide day-to-day work supervision of Assistant Medical Secretaries and administrative staff within the team.

  • GCSE English Language, Grade C or above (or equivalent)
  • Typing skills - OCR III (or equivalent e.g. RSA III )
  • Evidence of continued professional development

Desirable

  • ECDL
  • Qualification or appropriate training in Customer Service
  • AMSPAR

Knowledge

  • In depth knowledge of office processes and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience of using a variety of IT applications, including Microsoft Office
