Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who has a passion for teaching and training to continue to develop and maintain a cross-site education programme that promotes best practice and standardisation of care and documentation.

You should have a minimum of two years as a Band 6 senior nurse in Critical Care and have extensive knowledge of all aspects of Critical Care, along with an accredited post graduate Critical Care qualification and post graduate clinical education qualification. You should be confident to share knowledge, undertake teaching and training sessions, make assessments of professional practice, and be able to action plan and set objectives to enhance competency. Proven teaching history and teaching/mentorship qualification along with excellent interpersonal skills are essential. You should possess the ability to monitor, maintain and improve service delivery.

The role involves supporting new staff to Critical Care and participating in direct clinical training at the bedside as well as structured teaching sessions for groups of staff. As the Band 7 Clinical Educator you will work with the Band 7 Clinical Educator in Scarborough, senior staff and trained mentors to set objectives and assess competency of nursing staff in Critical Care.

You will be based predominantly at York Hospital but will be required to work across the Trust.

The post may become Permanent at the end of this Fixed Term/Secondment.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities of the role will include delivery of training programmes, interaction with Higher Education providers, audit and guideline development. As a senior nurse you will play a key role in the ongoing development of the Critical Care Strategy.

The post holder will:

  • play an essential role supporting the Lead Nurse and Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses by facilitating education, training and practice development within the Critical Care Unit and Care Group, in establishing a high standard of education for all clinically based staff.
  • work closely with the Lead Clinical Educator in York and the Clinical educator in Scarborough to facilitate cross site education.
  • work in partnership with the Senior Nurse team, and will be responsible for implementing evidence-based, patient focused practice.
  • work within the clinical area, working with staff to facilitate the development of skills in order to integrate education and practice development, thus enhancing quality care delivery from both registered and unregistered workforce.
  • lead and facilitate audit and research and will function as a role model for staff within the clinical area, enabling and supporting the development of interdisciplinary and cross city working to ensure the sharing of good practice and delivery of high quality, effective
