Job summary

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit to the post of Fire Safety Officer / advisor.

The ideal candidate will be pragmatic and need to show an aptitude for the topic of fire safety, having experience of fire safety, ideally in an NHS or healthcare environment. The role has an element of development and the candidate will need to be prepared to learn and develop within the role. The candidate will need to be reliable and professional as they would be working with all levels of staff within the Trust associated with this vital safety aspect of work.

Main duties of the job

The role is based at Scarborough Hospital and responsible for fire safety risk assessments and fire evacuation. These are completed annually for high-risk complex wards and departments and 3 yearly for low-risk areas. The Eastern region fire officer undertakes 83 lifesaving fire risk assessments for 35 complex and 48 low risk areas.

Other duties will include fire training and general fire safety and to provide expert fire safety advice to all staff within the Trust Group. This will include fire safety in accordance with the Fire Safety Order, HTM's and the Building Regulations.

Knowlwdge,Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Degree level qualification in Fire Safety or Fire Engineering, or equivalent level of experience and/or qualifications
  • Full Clean Driving License
  • Demonstrate experience in Fire Safety
  • Proven experience of preparing and delivering training courses.
  • Proven experience of working across organisational boundaries to improve standards.
  • Proven knowledge of: oFire Safety oFire Risk Management oFire Legislation and Code of Practice oFire Safety Training
  • Ability to undertake fire safety audits
  • Experience in the preparation of fire prevention and emergency action plans.
  • Experience in the investigation of all fire related incidents and fire alarm activations.

Desirable

  • Training/Teaching Qualification
  • Registered as a fire risk assessor with a recognised accreditation body
  • NEBOSH Fire Safety qualification. Member of the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) or the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO)
