VIU is undergoing an exciting development, expanding to a new unit to increase our workload. We are looking for someone who is caring, compassionate and loves the challenge of a busy day case unit. You will be guided in your role by our friendly and supportive team of nurses, radiographers, and consultants.
For this role, you will have to demonstrate excellent communication skills, display a positive professional manner, be adaptive to change and work well with a diverse team of professionals.

Main duties of the job
You will work as part of a proactive team to care for a wide range of patients during their visits to VIU.
As a Senior Healthcare Assistant, you will work collaboratively with the Nurses to provide high standards of patient care, including:
- Welcoming patients to the unit.
- Preparing patients for a variety of procedures i.e., peripheral angiogram, coronary angioplasty, pacemaker insertion, biopsy, and drains.
- Caring for patients post procedure.
- Transferring patients to the ward, giving effective handover, and discharging patients following recovery.
You will be responsible for providing a range of personalised care for patients, including assisting with personal hygiene, toileting, moving and handling, catheter and drain care, NEWS2 observations, and venepuncture & cannulation once trained.
You will provide essential support to the consultants during procedures, working as a scrub nurse or circulatory nurse when in the interventional lab, along with covering out of hours on-call and occasional cross-site working.
A full induction package will be set up to enable you to be integrated with the team and a full training plan along with continuous support from our Clinical Educator will be provided to allow you to develop within our unit.
