Job summary

Ensuring we have a safe, compassionate and effective workforce is paramount to any healthcare system, knowing we have the right staff, with the right skills in the right place ensures patients get the care they require at their most vulnerable time. What a privilege that is to know that we can influence such an important agenda within any organisation.

This post is a new and exciting role within York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and will support and work alongside the Assistant Chief Nurse to deliver this important agenda. As a compassionate and authentic leader, the successful candidate will be required to have at least one years' experience as a Band 8a, with a proven track record of leading a project and autonomous working.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will need an insight into workforce, safe staffing and also education and retention. Retention is a key component to the NHS Long Term Workforce plan that was released in June this year, and how we train, reform, and retain our workforce is the strategic direction for the NHS.

As Head of Nursing you will need to be innovative, creative and motivated, to ensure the nursing workforce choses us as their first destination to work. How we engage with our local universities, international teams and non-registered teams who are key to the delivery of the fundamental basics of care is paramount, and requires an individual with drive and passion for workforce and an excellent communicator.

It is desirable that the applicant has the Safer Staffing CNO fellowship, but if not, ambition to undertake this excellent programme.
