Job summary

We are looking for two enthusiastic, motivated Heads of Nursing, who are able to support and lead our Theatre and Critical Care areas or Internal Medicine services across York, Scarborough and Bridlington.

The post-holders will be inspiring, compassionate nurse leaders ensuring the highest standards of practice and clinical care is delivered to patients.

Our Theatres are committed to providing a high standard of patient care across 16 Specialist Theatres, 6 Day Unit Theatres, 3 Ophthalmology theatres as well as 3 Maternity Theatres across the 3 sites. With Critical Care having units on both the York and Scarborough sites, with an exciting new build at Scarborough opening in 2024, along with a well-established Critical Care Outreach Service.

Internal Medicine services, comprises of Gastroenterology, Renal, Cardiology, Respiratory and Endocrine, including wards, departments, and specialist nursing. The brand-new cross site Medicine Care Group launches on 1 October and provides excellent opportunities to develop services and new ways of working in conjunction with the care group leadership team and clinical staff of all disciplines. The development of a new combined cardiac and respiratory high observation unit co-located with critical care opens in Spring 2024 and will involve partnership working with surgical and critical care specialities and the development of a cardiac outreach service.

Main duties of the job

As a key member of the York and Scarborough Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust you will be joining an exceptional team working together to help our patients when they need it most.

You will lead the teams' contribution to care delivery, promoting a culture of lifelong learning, role development, critical thinking, practice development and innovation.

We are seeking to appoint inspirational and effective nurse leaders with significant experience in managing Theatres, Critical Care or Acute Medicine areas, who are able to demonstrate their ability to improve services, support and develop new staffing models, whilst providing oversight and assurance to the Care Group Management Team and Trust Executive Team.

  • You will have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to deal with complex situations.
  • You will have excellent communication skills and will inspire your teams with your drive and passion for developing people and services.
  • You will be a visible and credible clinical leader, promoting compassionate leadership within your areas of responsibility whilst engaging your teams to improve standards of care.

There will be a requirement for on-call in the role and supporting the wider hospital sites.
