A vacancy have arisen for a suitable qualified Specialist Biomedical Scientist with HCPC registration to join the Point Of Care Testing (POCT) department covering the new Community Diagnostics Hub services.
As an experienced Biomedical Scientist the post holder will contribute to the day-to-day running and development of the Point of Care Testing department. The post holder will have in-depth scientific knowledge of at least one Pathology discipline and will work with the POCT Clinical Lead, POCT Senior BMS and POCT Associate Practitioners to ensure that all scientific, technical and quality aspects of the POCT service are maintained across Community Diagnostic Hub sites. The post holder must be able to work autonomously where appropriate. The role will often be outward-facing therefore good organisational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential to the role.
Main duties of the job
- Responsible for all quality aspects within their designated area and ensures the timely completion of CAPAs, audits, EQA reports and any other activities associated with the quality assurance system
- Participates in the maintenance of the quality system by participating in EQA and IQA schemes as appropriate. This will include distribution of IQC and EQA material.
- Participates in the introduction of new equipment or methods to the department, as appropriate.
- Travelling between Community Diagnostic Hub sites as required.
- To complete daily monitoring tasks associated with the use of POCT equipment by clinical staff to help to ensure on-going compliance with policies and procedures.
- To assist in processing training and competency assessments for all POCT equipment users according to departmental protocols.
- To configure, install, use, maintain and troubleshoot POCT equipment and any associated software.
- To use interpretative skills to determine the significance of laboratory results and take appropriate actions
