Job summary

We are looking to recruit Healthcare Support Workers for our In-Patient Unit at the Selby War Memorial Hospital, which is part of the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Selby In-Patient unit is based on the second floor of the Selby War Memorial Hospital and provides 24 hour care for patients in the surrounding area; providing rehabilitation and palliative/end of life care, as well as discharge planning. In addition we run a clinic once a week on the ward which undertakes a variety of outpatient treatments for patients within the local area.

The unit embraces multi-disciplinary team working optimising outcomes for patients. We work on the home first principle, and SAFER is embedded within the unit.

This post requires motivation, enthusiasm, excellent communication skills and demonstration of teamworking. The successful candidate will have a real opportunityto further their own professional development. They must be flexible, approachable, compassionate, motivated, hard-working and be able to manage their time effectively.

Main duties of the job

  • To demonstrate care and compassion whilst ensuring that patients' needs are met
  • To carry out nursing and non-nursing duties as delegated by the registered nurse / midwife; using own initiative within the level of competence expected for the role.
  • To assist and support members of the multi-professional team in order to provide a high standard of patient - centred care; performing duties without the need for constant direct supervision.
