Job summary
We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Chief Biomedical Scientist to lead the Scarborough Hull and York Pathology Service (SHYPS) regional Immunology laboratories, based at Hull Royal Infirmary.
The appointed person will be responsible for all scientific activities and the leadership of the Immunology department, along with the management and supervision of all Biomedical Scientists, Support Workers and Trainees. The post holder will also be required to deputise for the Head Biomedical Scientist for Specialist Laboratory Testing were appropriate. We are looking for a scientist who is hard working, innovative, sociable, and works well as part of a team.
Main duties of the job
You will be registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical or Clinical Scientist and have extensive experience in an Immunology / Blood Sciences Laboratory, most at a senior level. You will also hold an MSc in Immunology or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
Operating from four laboratory sites, SHPYS provides a comprehensive laboratory medicine service to the Humber and North Yorkshire ICS, and all NHS and third sector care providers within the region. The Immunology laboratory is based in a purpose build facility in Hull and is extremely well equipped. You will lead a team of 15 scientists with additional support workers offering specialist immunochemistry, autoimmunity, allergy and flow cytometry services.
The laboratory works closely with the Clinical Immunology & Allergy clinics, as well as a wide range of other medical specialties through MDTs and clinical pathway development. The department is well-established and research active.
The successful candidate will lead all Immunology testing in the region, providing services to a core population of approximately 1.4 million people. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated, forward thinking individual to be involved in the development of a rapidly changing and expanding service.
