If you answered yes, we could be the Team for you! Our Volunteer Service Team is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic individual to manage the day to day running of the service and get us ready for anticipated changes to volunteering in the NHS.

Volunteers play a vital part improving the experience of our patients and their loved ones within the Trust. Our Volunteers support a number of wards, clinics and departments in our hospitals. Whether it is providing support at mealtimes or sitting and chatting to patients, our volunteers continue to go above and beyond to provide the small things for our patients. The Volunteer Services Team is seeking a new Volunteer Service Manager to drive forward recruitment and retention of volunteers and oversee a service that is growing.

Please note that this vacancy can be based at either the York or Scarborough site, and there will be regular cross-site travel.

Main duties of the job

  • The purpose of this job is to manage the volunteer service, with a view to increasing the contributions that our volunteers make towards improving Patient Experience.
  • Act as the central point of escalation for any concerns regarding volunteer performance/boundaries, gathering evidence from Ward Volunteer supervisors where appropriate and needed, establish policies, processes, and standard operating procedures Manage Volunteer Team.
  • Lead on all aspects of recruitment and Volunteer retention, including appointment criteria, application process, advertising, interview process and Disclosure & Barring Service checks. Maintain links with the HR department to ensure governance around Volunteer recruitment can be provided.
  • Maintain records of volunteering undertaken in the Trust to support the production of reports, data and other important information about the volunteering services, as required.
  • Being a visible leader for volunteering, internally and externally, communicating with prospective and current Volunteers, and with staff to gain support for developing and growing the service.
