Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical/ counselling psychologist with relevant skills and experience to join the psychological medicine department based at The Old Chapel in York. This vacancy is for 0.7WTE role in pain psychology (with the potential to pick up additional hours within the wider psychological medicine department).

The pain psychology team consists of a Principal Clinical Psychologist, Senior Clinical Psychologist (this role), and a CBT Therapist. We are fully integrated into the wider pain service multidisciplinary team, working into joint clinics and shared group programmes. We also offer individual psychology assessment, formulation, and intervention.

There is good access to funding for continuing professional development and training courses. There are also many opportunities to engage in individual and group clinical supervision, training, audit, service evaluation, and research.

Main duties of the job

The role offers the opportunity to be involved in many different aspects of service delivery, including individual assessment and intervention, participation in MDT clinics, group work, teaching and training other professionals, service evaluation and attending national networking events.

The successful applicant will, in addition to having a 1:1 therapy caseload, be undertaking specialist assessments for spinal cord stimulator implantation and will be part of the spinal cord stimulator MDT. This includes contributing to a pain management programme alongside nurse, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy colleagues, and attending a national network for psychologists working in neuromodulation.

Applications are welcomed from those with experience of working with chronic pain, or surgical intervention assessments, however a successful applicant with transferable skills from other fields would be supported to develop in this area. Applications from newly qualified staff will be considered based on relevant experience, and this post can be offered as a preceptorship at band 7, working towards band 8a.
