Job summary

The opportunity has arisen to join the audiology team as a trainee associate audiologist

The successful candidate will be enrolled on a level 5 apprenticeship at Demontfort University. When not at university you will be working alongside the Audiology Team to develop your skill set

As this role is a training post the salary is Annex U of a band 4.

The successful candidate will receive training in primarily adult rehabilitation, however we also offer a paediatric service and support in this area from time to time may be required.

To be considered for interview the successful candidate must be educated to GCSE level English and Mathematics grade C or level 4 and above. it would be desirable if you have Science qualification as well. The post would suit an A level student wishing to pursue a NHS career

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role are in areas of hearing assessment and rehabilitation of hearing impaired adults. Training in support for paediatric clinics will also be timetabled.

  • To undertake routine hearing assessments and the programming and fitting of a range of digital hearing aids on adults. This includes the use of predetermined fitting procedures, verification of that fitting and following of a care plan which allows achievement of previously defined patient outcomes. The Associate Audiologist will work to clearly defined policies and procedures where their work is managed rather than supervised.
  • Ensure stock levels are adequate and advise when levels are low.
  • Use the electronic patient management system to keep track of current stock levels and items of stock provided to patients.
  • Excellent communication skills to meet the needs of individuals and groups with hearing and speech discrimination difficulties. Imparting complex information consistent with the recipient's communication abilities to ensure understanding of technical, physiological and scientific aspects of diagnosis.
  • To communicate using a high degree of motivation, empathy and reassurance skills where there are barriers to understanding due to the level of hearing loss.
  • Use available resources, encouraging others to meet the differing communication needs of the population
