Head of Nursing for Gynaecology, Cancer and Oncology

Job summary

Delivery of nursing services and developing a service strategy in conjunction with the clinical leads of Gynaecology, Cancer and Palliative Care.

Set clear goals and objectives for staff within the service to ensure delivery of excellent clinical care.

Jointly accountable for delivery of the service line financial target, ensuring continual improvement, to make sure financial controls are established and maintained.

Effective management of human resource, financial resource, governance and business planning arrangements for nursing across the group.

Ensuring the smooth and safe day to day running of nursing services within the service line and maintaining excellent staff and patient experience.

Ensuring business continuity and resilient service delivery, supported by robust operational and capacity planning.

Ensure the delivery of the Trust's corporate objectives and transformation programmes.

Collaboration between services to support quality improvements and collective achievement of performance standards incorporating quality, safety, contractual, access, financial and workforce.

Lead by example and act at all times as an ambassador for the Trust, championing the Trust's values and upholding the highest standards of behaviour and compassion for colleagues; ensuring that at all times both self and nurses over which they have responsibility work within the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code taking appropriate action when standards are not met.

Main duties of the job

Leadership

Provide visible operational leadership, guidance, support and direction to clinical staff within the group inpartnership with the Clinical Directors and General Managers

Facilitate and drive change across the clinical service lines in conjunction with clinical and managerial colleagues .

Focus on continuous improvement of the performance and financial position of the clinical service lines embed systems to manage performance against objectives and quality targets .

Responsible for ensuring that all wards and departments are clean, safe and meet relevant required standards.

Ensuring all staff have the necessary training to identify and protect vulnerable adults/children/your people /families at risk

Provide escalation support for the Deputy Heads of Nursing/Matrons and site team.

Work collaboratively with business partners to ensure effective financial, quality and workforce planning that meets the needs of both current and future service developments.

Ensure that all staff receive appropriate education and training opportunities which supports the workforce strategy and therefore, the strategic aims of the Trust.

Deputise for colleagues as required.

Offer suggestions, guidance and advice to others based on own experience supporting the operational and strategic agenda.
