Job summary
To support the delivery and ongoing development of the Breast Oncology service, providing high-quality care to patients with breast cancer, their families, and carers throughout diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and metastatic pathways.
This is an evolving role that requires flexibility to respond to the changing needs of the service, including new treatment pathways, emerging guidance, and service developments. The post holder will work collaboratively with Primary and Metastatic Breast Care Nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to implement national guidance and deliver evidence-based, patient-centred, compassionate care.
The role requires a proactive and adaptable approach to coordinating patient care, managing complex treatment pathways, and supporting service improvements. The post holder will contribute to clinical audit, education, and service initiatives, support junior staff, and maintain high standards of professional practice in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and NHS guidelines.
Main duties of the job
To work autonomously and as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT)
To work in collaboration with the Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team
To act as a clinical expert,
To support patients and their families in understanding complex information r
To provide specialist nursing advice
To undertake timely and comprehensive assessment of patients' physical and psychological needs,
To apply specialist knowledge of breast cancer and its treatments
To communicate complex and sensitive information effectively and empathetically to patients, carers, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
To work collaboratively with the wider breast oncology team and external organisations to ensure continuity and coordination of care across organisational boundaries.
