Job summary
The Dermatology Band 3 Clinical Support Worker will play a key role in supporting the safe and efficient delivery of high-quality patient care across the Dermatology Department. This is a patient-facing role that combines clinical support, patient preparation, and organisational responsibilities to ensure smooth running of clinics and procedures.
The post holder will work closely with Consultants, Specialist Nurses, and the wider multi-disciplinary team, providing essential support within the biopsy room and on the clinical floor. A significant part of the role involves assisting clinicians during dermatological procedures, ensuring the biopsy room is prepared, equipment is maintained, and infection-control standards are followed at all times.
On the clinical floor, the Band 3 Clinical Support Worker will support the day-to-day running of outpatient clinics by greeting and preparing patients, acting as a chaperone, and carrying out clinical observations such as blood pressure, height, weight, and other relevant assessments. The post holder will contribute to patient flow by ensuring notes, documentation, and clinic areas are organised and ready for each session, helping to maintain a positive patient experience and timely service delivery.
This role requires excellent communication, a caring and professional approach, and the ability to work confidently in a fast-paced and varied clinical environment.
Main duties of the job
Assist clinicians in the biopsy room, including preparing equipment, maintaining sterility, and ensuring all instruments are cleaned and restocked in line with infection-control policies. Support doctors and nurses during dermatology procedures such as biopsies, excisions, and phototherapy preparations. Act as a chaperone during examinations and procedures, ensuring patient dignity, comfort, and safeguarding at all times. Record and document clinical observations accurately, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, height, and other relevant assessments. Prepare patients for their appointments by explaining procedures, collecting relevant medical information, and ensuring they are ready for examination. Support the smooth running of dermatology clinics by ensuring consultation rooms are prepared, clean, and stocked with required consumables. Assist with patient flow management, calling patients in, directing them to appropriate areas, and ensuring clinics run to time. Check, clean, and restock clinical rooms and equipment at the start and end of each clinic session. Ensure biopsy rooms are set up and cleared safely, with appropriate disposal of sharps and clinical waste.
