Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Base site: Bedford Hospital)
This is a well-established substantive post within an experienced breast surgery team at Bedford Hospital, comprising one Consultant, one Associate Specialist, and one Specialty Doctor. The vacancy has arisen following the retirement of the current post-holder.
The successful appointee will be based primarily at the Bedford site; however, the Breast Unit operates as one part of a single merged service across Bedford and Luton. As the service continues to evolve, there is an increasing expectation that medical staff will integrate their practice across both sites and work flexibly to meet service needs.
Main duties of the job
Undertake regular new patient and follow up clinics at Bedford Hospital
Provide surgical treatment to patients with malignant and benign breast disease.
Prepare for and contribute to the weekly Breast Cancer Multi-Disciplinary Meetings
Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of breast patients.
Work closely with Breast multi-disciplinary team to manage the Breast patients in their pathway.
Teach and train intermediate grade and junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students.
Contribute to the future development of the joint working strategy of the Unit across the Bedfordshire Hospitals Trust
Actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
Have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD).
Have skills in breast ultrasound, or be prepared to undergo training in this regard
