Job summary

  • Act as a deputy in the absence of Nurse Team Managers, taking full responsibility for coordinating 24-hour nursing care across the department to ensure continuity and quality of patient care.

  • Assist the Manager with staff rostering, ensuring appropriate skill mix and coverage to meet clinical demands.

  • Participate actively in RATTING, streaming, and triage processes to support patient flow and facilitate access to appropriate care pathways.

  • Provide leadership and coordination across all areas of the Emergency Department, including resuscitation, trauma, majors, and ambulatory care.

  • Contribute to the recruitment and selection of Band 5 and below staff, working collaboratively with Nurse Team Leaders and the Matron to identify and appoint suitable candidates.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Band 7 Nurse Team Manager in overseeing the daily operational management of the Emergency Department, ensuring smooth and effective service delivery. They will provide high-quality care to patients presenting with a range of conditions, including injuries, critical illness, resuscitation needs, trauma, and mental health concerns.
