Senior Clinical Fellow - Oncology

Job summary

This post is for a Senior Clinical Fellow within Oncology who will work with the Acute Oncology Nurses assessing and supporting Chemotherapy patients who are admitted to the hospital with an Oncological emergency as well as carrying out Chemotherapy/Oncology clinics. The post will also support the Chemotherapy nurses within the Chemotherapy suite with any queries with regard to treatment reactions or assessing fitness for treatment.

Main duties of the job

Multidisciplinary team working is a key component of the working in the department.

New patient assessment/ Ward visits/ Acute Oncology Service support

To provide Medical cover to the Chemotherapy Day Unit

To provide chemotherapy review clinics

To provide general Oncology clinics alongside Consultants

To provide daily Acute Oncology assessment clinic

Ward rounds/supporting the nursing team with in-patient care

Job description

Job responsibilities

Undergraduate/Postgraduate/Nursing teaching

In addition to the above the post-holder can attend the relevant MDTs to discuss cases that they are involved with.

Patients with acute oncological symptoms must be seen as soon as possible (within 24 hours by AOS Team).

Ward rounds and visits to individual patients as well as discussion with their relatives will be necessary.

Keeping medical records as per GMC Good Medical practice is utmost; these must be dated and initialed, together with any other related administrative duties including discharge and clinic letters.

Duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant(s), in consultation where possible with colleagues both senior and junior. Additional commitments arising under this paragraph are exceptional. In particular, the doctor will not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.

Agree to read and follow any protocols laid down (either in writing or verbally) for the firm in which you are working.

In case of any difficulties ensure that advice is sought from a senior colleague.
