Job summary
The Luton and Dunstable Hospital is looking to recruit a Trainee Frailty Advanced Clinical Practitioner into their frailty service on a year's secondment. This role would be an opportunity for an individual who is already on the Advanced Clinical Practice MSc Pathway but is looking for an opportunity to gain clinical experience and supervision on acute frailty to further their clinical skills and experience.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a team who provide expertise in frailty as required by the Same Day Emergency Care programme for the acute setting of A&E and the assessment areas of the Trust.
Successful candidates for the post must meet the academic entry requirements set by the University for the master's programme (already have a degree), be flexible, innovative, highly motivated and above all be committed to improving the care and assessment of frail older people within the Trust.
This post will develop to a Band 8a upon completion of a Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice, and completion of an Independent Non-Medical Prescribing qualification, incorporating the competence of autonomous decision making.

Main duties of the job
- Deliver and participate in the clinical care of patients recognised as frail, working within Gold Standards, and performing a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment.
- Priorities health needs and intervenes appropriately.
- To be professionally and legally accountable for all work undertaken to practice at an advanced level of professional autonomy and accountability that is within Trust policies and the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Conduct (2008) or Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Provide a level of advanced and comprehensive health assessment based on a specialist body of knowledge.
- To appropriately assess, examine, investigate, diagnose, and treat patients, resulting in the safe management and appropriate referral or discharge of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations.
- Ensure patients are informed and consent is gained prior to treatment, investigation, and management as appropriate. When patients are recognised as being incapacitated to make decisions about their own health needs, to be able to make decisions in the patient's best interest to enhance their care and well-being.
- Take responsibility for the management of patients within own caseload and supervision/development of junior members of the multi-professional team.
- Can identify the need for appropriate diagnostic tests and interpret the results.
