Job summary

To provide an administration service to the Department of Pathology, may be required to assist with the issuing and filing of diagnostic reports and supporting the core service work of the department. This will involve a measure of independent judgement in order that the priority work will be maintained at all times. The post holder will need to demonstrate a commitment to the delivery of high quality service to patients and other service users.

Main duties of the job

  1. To support an administration service as may be appropriate to department needs.
  2. General Office duties to include, data entry, typing, filing, distribution of post,
  3. Preparing required information/specimens for Consultant MDTs
  4. Answer general telephone enquiries
  5. Prepare sendaway samples.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. Assist in the collation of material required for multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
  2. Responsible for the distribution of internal / external post.
  3. Sending sensitive tissue samples and slides to other hospitals, research facilities, Forensic Pathologists etc.
  4. Filing reports and slides.
  5. Photocopying as necessary.
  6. Maintain patients records, both on the computer system and in the medical records
  7. In collaboration with appropriate staff, be responsible for the production of, continuous monitoring and updating of departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  8. Assist in providing Departmental data on workload.
  9. Perform general housekeeping of the computer system.
  10. Be fully conversant with various software programmes (after training), including the Pathology computer system relating to report entry and authorisation to ensure correct reports are issued and any errors rectified, PIMS for patient information, and the ICE system for laboratory reporting
  11. Attend mandatory training courses as required.
  12. The post-holder is expected to accept and undertake work in a willing manner and put their time to effective use.
