Job summary
Responsible for planning, leading and overseeing the daily duties of all hospital porters (General, Theatre, Xray, Pharmacy, Post and Utilities) on all matters relating to their workload including rostering and payroll, and ensure that adequate and appropriate levels of service are maintained in order to provide portering support to all wards and departments. This will involve the analysis of staffing levels and hospital requirements, the provision of timely rotas from the e-rostering system to staff as well as the adjustment of rotas to cover annual leave or sickness.
Promote co-operation and versatility within the workplace and encourage a positive attitude within the department by leading by example.
Ensure that any work undertaken that is not budgeted for is costed and reported to the divisional accountant at the beginning of each month so it can be cross charged.
Give guidance and professional advice and act as a point of contact for all matters relating to the staff under your supervision.
Deal with all general enquiries from staff, patients, visitors and members of the general public in a helpful and courteous manner.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for providing timely, efficient and effective operational management ensuring that the Portering service is responsive and provided to the highest possible standards that are service user focused. To identify changing demand on the services, developing and implementing, in conjunction with the Head of Site services and Support Service Manager, plans to meeting them and supporting the change management process.
Waste Management Work to ensure the defined services are provided across the Trust and that they sit within budgetary constraints. Plan and chair monthly waste management meetings with all key stakeholders. Produce the terms of reference and agenda and circulate minutes and an action plan with clear responsibilities assigned. Create and implement a programme of review on service performance suggesting improvements where appropriate and identify projects where such service improvements and/or cost saving initiatives can be undertaken taking into account current and future provider and commissioner objectives, financial resources, clinical concerns and legislative issues. Present any new initiatives at the PEG meetings. Produce a waste audit plan to benchmark service delivery against national standards and Trust policies that will help deliver an increase in the waste stream compliance across all areas of the Trust.
