The Finance Team has over 60 members of staff working in Financial Accounts, Management Accounts and Contracting across the Bedford and Luton site.
The Cashier is responsible for:
- receipting payments received by cash, card or cheque.
- Preparing deposits for banking.
- Paying petty cash.
- receiving and counting cash from departments and vending machines.
- issuing rail warrants.
- resolving queries.

Main duties of the job
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To receipt payments to the hospital and its endowment funds by cash, card or cheque.
To prepare deposits for banking and arrange for timely supply of cheques, bank stationery and security services.
To pay petty cash on authorised instruction of budget holders, and patients entitled to reimbursement under Dept of Health rules, and to reimburse imprests.
To prepare manual payment documents and cheques on appropriate instruction, including obtaining signatures, mailing and advising payees and requisitioners as appropriate. To manage computerised recording system via excel spreadsheets.
To receive, count and reconcile cash from departments and vending machines within the hospital.
To empty, replenish cash and floats from vending machines and change machines with assistance of security as appropriate.
To resolve queries and enquiries received at the cashiers' office in person, by letter, email and by telephone.
To receive and give out living and deceased patients' property and money when required. Responsible for the management of the deceased patients' property ledger, including liaison with relatives, solicitors and other organisations to ensure that property is released as per legal entitlement and reimbursement of funeral costs.
Responsible for the management of cremation fees to ensure payment of relevant individuals in a timely manner.
