Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Surgery for a nurse who is experienced, enthusiastic and committed towards leading and supporting the surgical nursing teams to provide the best possible care and outcome for the patients.
We are seeking a new Matron for Acute Surgery who will be responsible for Surgical Wards 21 & 22 that manage patient care for gastroenterology and general surgery, and also the Emergency Surgical Unit (ESU). In addition they will oversee the following specialist services - Obesity Centre, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Team & Surgical Hospital at Home (H&H).
The post holder, working alongside Matron for Specialist Surgery, will provide capable and visible professional leadership and demonstrate a strong commitment of support to the teams, ensuring the highest standard of care is delivered to all patients in accordance with current evidence based professional practice and Trust policies.
Whilst developing high performing teams and implementing a culture of continuous improvement, the post holder will ensure patient safety is optimised in line with best practice and an excellent patient experience. This will include developing and ensuring a nursing workforce that is motivated and competent.
The post holder will work in collaboration with the Deputy Head of Nursing for Surgery and supported by the Head of Nursing for Surgery to develop and ensure team working within a positive and open culture across the services.
Main duties of the job
Supported by the Deputy Head of Nursing for Surgery the post holder will be responsible for the delivery of key quality targets, promoting excellence in nursing care and financial performance targets. The post holder will also lead and contribute to service improvement initiatives within the directorate.
There are 6 surgical wards and other related surgical departments where nurses will need support and strong leadership qualities including positivity, ability to focus and develop others, and be a good listener.
As a manager of the services, you will be confident and able to use your experience to support the nurses to plan and prioritise utilising excellent communication skills.
