Job summary
This appointment will provide training and experience in a wide range of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery.Once a month the Orthopaedic Department holds a study morning. In addition to medical audit, case presentations are made, complications are discussed.Additionally, guest speakers attend where possible.A Journal Club is held once a month and there is a daily trauma meeting with all members of the junior medical staff. The SHOs give fortnightly presentations on anatomical or clinical topics. They also take part in the Basic Surgical Trainee educational programme. Junior staff are encouraged to take appropriate study leave.Further information may be obtained from the Junior Medical Staff or by making an appointment to visit the consultant.
Main duties of the job
The Trust is looking to appoint a Senior Clinical fellow in Orthopaedics andTrauma.All candidates should be well trained in General Orthopaedic Surgery having worked at middle grade level in the specialty for a minimum of 2 years.Training in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, Shoulder surgery, Foot and Ankle surgery and Complex and Revision Hip and Knee arthroplasty will be given.All Senior Clinical Fellows participate in the management of Trauma and thepost holders will participate in the 1 in 7 on-call trauma week rota.

Each of the Senior Clinical Fellows will be allocated to one of the 8Consultants and will remain so for the duration of the post, subject to theneeds of the service. Although the Specialist Registrars & Senior ClinicalFellows will have a principal responsibility for one Consultant's patients, they will of course be expected (by arrangement) to cover for each other and will also assume responsibility to other Consultants should the need arise.
The Senior Clinical Fellows will be expected to attend ward rounds andoperating sessions as determined by their Consultants and will also beexpected to assist at Orthopaedic and Trauma Clinics. The Senior ClinicalFellow will be permitted to operate under supervision according to theirexperience. This post is also suitable for experienced senior surgeons andopportunities will be made available for those with more experience.
When on duty for Trauma and Orthopaedics emergencies (or in theunavoidable absence of a colleague who should be on duty) they will attendpatients in the A & E Department and determine the initial treatment of thesepatients whether admitted to hospital or not.
