Job summary

Reporting to Head of Information & Business Intelligence, this post holder will be required to support the senior management in all aspects of service delivery within the Information & Business Intelligence (IBI) function of the Trust to agreed quality standards.

A significant part of this role will be contributing to the development and implementation of effective performance measurement & improvement systems / processes in Clinical Service Lines (CSL), ensuring that these are sustained by high quality analysis and insights, to support the Trust's development as a clinically led organisation.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be an active partner developing effective strategic working relationships across the two hospital sites and contribute to all aspects of service delivery within the Information & BI function of the Trust.
  • The post holder will support the delivery of a high quality performance reporting framework aligned to the clinical services delivery framework adopted by the Trust.
  • The post holder will ensure that the contract, quality and performance analysis is carried out with constant awareness of customer needs, in order to give them the quickest answers to their questions and best value for money.
  • The post holder will work collaboratively with all the stakeholders to aid the development of the Trust's Business Intelligence strategy in support of the delivery of strategic and operational ambitions, thereby, enabling informed decisions which improve patient experience, patient outcomes, quality, financial or service line performance.

Job responsibilities

1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting and Analysis

  • Develop and maintain new standard reports in response to both ad hoc and routine information queries requested from clinical and non-clinical managers, project leads and medical personnel across the two hospital sites and tailored to their specific needs.
  • Present key sources of benchmarking information that will help the Boards and Service Lines understand their performance in relation to peers, and to provide ad hoc and regular analysis based on that benchmark information
  • Provide analytical support to strategic projects relating to the assigned Service

Line(s). This involves the scoping, defining, extraction, quality assurance, and visualisation that can be used to drive these initiatives forward.

  • Coordinating specification and prototyping of new routine BI reports, as agreed by the wider information department, based upon feedback from key staff to ensure that BI reports remain a useful management information resource.

Indicator Development

  • Leading on and coordinating the specification of new performance indicators (including targets and trajectories) in response to changing requirements across the Trust and/or service line(s).
  • Providing expert advice to Service Line teams and leadership on the construction of indicators according to team processes, including definitions, data sources and target and tolerance setting.
  • Reviewing Service Line performance information and refining the indicator contents with the service managers and/or general managers.

Leadership

  • Drive the engagement with the assigned Service Line(s), support them to define analytical work programmes and provide specialist advice on integrated reporting/BI solutions which allow rapid access to information.
  • Provide guidance and support to other Analysts within the Information & BI function, sharing skills and knowledge (training where appropriate) to improve the teams efficiency.
  • Promote the use of Service Line reports, performance packs & BI tools within the Trust and support colleagues in how they can be used to improve services.
  • Represent the Information & BI function at internal and external meetings.

Activity, income, demand, capacity

  • Act as the designated lead for the production of supporting data for accurate activity and capacity plans for their board and Service Lines which are input into Trust-wide activity and capacity models.
  • Working with the Head of Information & BI ensure that unplanned variation in service delivery (activity, income, expenditure, capacity, performance) is identified and appropriate, timely action taken
  • Support the Head of Information & BI in the development of cost improvement plans

Service Delivery and Improvement

  • Work collaboratively with the Service Managers and General Managers for the assigned Service Lines and support them in the interpretation and understanding of Clinical Service Line reports as well as contract performance for the assigned service line(s). The information in these reports can be complex in nature and will need to be explained to end-users in a meaningful manner.
  • Utilise modelling and forecasting techniques to predict future need and demand.
  • Provide information proactively to support and inform the respective Clinical Service Line(s), of any local or national initiatives, informing them of potential breaches in performance.
  • Baseline current service line(s) performance and, set up benefit measurements and tracking processes to support the delivery of the targeted benefits.
  • Participate in BI roadmap discussions and support the development of BI strategy with a clear alignment to the strategic vision.
  • Support the development of business intelligence tools which provide a single consistent and comprehensive view of BHFTs performance.
  • Support continuous improvement within the Information & BI function, making sure the available capacity is always used efficiently and effectively.
  • Develop and maintain clear procedures for reports created and tasks to be carried out, to enable other members of the Information & BI function to support these as the need arises.
  • Support the provision and analysis of data for national statutory reporting.
  • Keep up to date with new developments, including researching and evaluating new technologies.

  • Implement business analysis techniques (e.g. process mapping) and support the development of information solutions to facilitate service redesign and service improvements.
  • Support the implementation and training of programmes and projects related to data warehouse, systems upgrades and implementations.

Financial and Performance Management

  • Contribute to meeting the Departments required performance standards.
