Job summary

We are looking for enthusiastic, compassionate and motivated individuals who are committed to delivering a high standard of patient care on our busy but friendly wards. As a healthcare assistant you will be a valued member of the team and support our nurses to look after our patients. You will be involved in a variety of duties such as bathing, toileting and the monitoring of patient observations.

If you are able to show empathy and understanding whilst maintaining patients self-respect and dignity, we would like to hear from you. You will be given the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills to perform the care under the supervision of our qualified nurses.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the delivery of patient/client care and participate in the safe and effectivemanagement of the nursing services under the supervision of registered nurses andmidwives.The Health Care Assistant (HCA) will contribute in a variety of activities of patient/client careto the level of experience and assessed competence that he/she has acquired. The serviceusers come from a variety of cultural backgrounds and the Health Care Assistant must beable to communicate effectively

You will at all times work under the supervision of the RegisteredNurse/Midwife in charge of the shift and will be accountable to the RegisteredNurse/Midwife you are working with and to the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse/Midwife ofthe ward/department2 You will work to the level of your experience, assessed competence and skills acquiredwithin the post.3 You will require immediate and direct supervision in areas of unfamiliar work. You shouldnot undertake any task that you are unfamiliar with.MAIN DUTIES:COMMUNICATION:4 Recognise and maintain confidentiality of information relating to patients/clients and theirrecords5 Ensure clarity in communicating with patients/clients and their relatives as well as otherteam members and in answering questions within the sphere of ones own knowledge.Report changes in patients condition to the registered nurse/midwife on duty andparticipate in shift hand over to ensure effective continuity of care.6 Contribute to the ongoing support of patients/clients and others significant to them,enabling patients/clients to maintain their interests, identity and emotional well-being.7 Welcome patients/clients, their families and other visitors to the ward/department.Introduce them to the facilities and services provided.8 Answer the telephone on a clear, friendly, helpful and professional manner.
