Job summary
Applications are invited for the above full time posts for this 660 bedded acute hospital serving a local population of approximately 400,000. The appointment will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for Specialty Doctors (England) April 2021.
The Department of Respiratory Medicine is within the Medicine Clinical Service Lines (CSL's), this is broken into three distinct areas, Acute, General & Elderly Medicine (Non-Elective), Emergency Medicine & Specialist Medicine (Elective). Both in-patient and out-patient services are based at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital. Respiratory Medicine is currently supported by 10 wte Consultants and their junior teams. The team has a number of specialty interests, including lung cancer, pleural disease, COPD, asthma, cough, tuberculosis, allergy, interstitial lung disease, palliative care and bronchiectasis. A Chest Clinic provides a comprehensive range of out-patient services including new and follow-up consultations, full lung function tests, sleep services, skin prick testing and anti-IgE therapy for appropriate asthmatic patients.
Main duties of the job
The Key tasks for the role of Specialty Doctor in Respiratory Medicine are;o Be required to provide a senior level of support to the departmento Duties of the post will include attendance at wards rounds and review of patients with clinical problems outside of the respiratory bed base and respiratory HDU.o Attend ward & board rounds both with the Consultants and with the Specialty Training Doctors / Foundation Year 2 doctors. The Specialty Doctor may be responsible for unaccompanied ward rounds.o Duties will include out-patient clinics. There will be administrative duties arising from out-patient work.o The appointee will work under the supervision of and be responsible to Dr Southern. In the absence of Dr Southern to the other Consultants in Respiratory.o The appointee will share office accommodation with other members of the Respiratory Team. Secretarial support will be provided together with IT equipment, including access to the internet.o The Specialty Doctor will participate in the regular Department Teaching, Audit and Governance meetings.o So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties, the appointee undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.o Regular contribution to departmental meetings, Journal club and Medical Grand rounds of the hospital.o Communicate with patients, their relatives and carers, members of the multidisciplinary team, other specialties, GPs and the wider community services.
