Are you an experienced and ambitious pharmacist looking for a leadership role which will take you on a journey towards a Chief Pharmacist position?

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dynamic pharmacist with a strong track record of project delivery at organisational level to lead the Pharmacy service at the Bedford Hospital site. You will be an inspirational leader and clinical role model with experience of motivating and developing teams. You will have a clear vision of how pharmacy staff contribute to patient centred care, medicines optimisation and safer use of medicines and be able to articulate a coherent plan to deliver this.

The Head of Pharmacy will hold explicit responsibility and accountability in driving forward quality and process improvements to operational delivery and advances in use of technology across the service, working closely with the Senior Pharmacy Leadership Team (PSLT).

The Head of Pharmacy is integral to supporting delivery of the Pharmacy Integration Strategy, which relates to staff and services within the Trust as well as collaboration with partners across the emerging BLMK Integrated Care System (ICS).

You will be encouraged to maintain any prior clinical specialism. An opportunity will be available to join the General Manager on-call rota which is an excellent way to gain more in-depth understanding of the wider Trust operational processes.

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible and accountable for the day-to-day performance of the Pharmacy department
  • To assist and deputise for the Chief Pharmacist as required
  • To be responsible to the Chief Pharmacist for the delivery of relevant KPIs; budget management; medicines management agenda and regulatory and mandatory standards
  • To support the Chief Pharmacist in the development of Medicines Use, Safety & Governance service requirements across both sites of the Trust in order to meet national standards in Medicines Management and professional requirements
  • To maintain a Quality Management System across Pharmacy services at the BH site, consistent with GxP standards
  • To work closely with the service lead for Training & Development, Clinical Pharmacy, Medicines Safety, Medicines Governance & Commissioning, and Medicines Supply Chain in executing delivery of a safe and effective pharmacy service to the hospital
