Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) on the Luton site for a Band 5 Registered Nurse.

Our NICU is a Level 3 tertiary unit in the East of England Network and has a cot capacity of 37 divided into 3 areas of care:

  • 11 Intensive Care Cots
  • 8 High Dependency Cots
  • 18 Special Care Cots

The Luton and Dunstable University Hospital has ambitious plans to redevelop the hospital and its services to deliver cutting edge healthcare in the best environment possible. We are midway through the building of a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit which will see an increase in cots to 44 with state of the art facilities including a new 8 cot transitional care area and new bereavement suite. This will be an exciting opportunity for an experienced neonatal nurse looking to continue development of their clinical and leadership capabilities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a high standard of nursing care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of patient care. To work closely with the department / ward manager and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing care, staff and service development within the department / ward environment.To carry out all relevant forms of care under supervision and when proficient demonstrate procedures of care; supervise junior qualified and / or unqualified staff including student nurses whilst maintaining a safe working environment.
