Job summary

Senior Clinical Respiratory Physiologist (Band 6) Full-time (37.5 hrs)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Respiratory Physiologist to join our busy, team at the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Within our expanding Respiratory Physiology Department, we undertake a wide variety of testing including complex respiratory and sleep diagnostics. We also provide a busy CPAP and domiciliary NIV service.

You will be self-motivated and have excellent interpersonal skills. You will have the ability to work under pressure and prioritise your individual workload, as well as be able to work effectively within a team and support development of junior staff. You must be able to provide evidence of continuing professional development and have experience in a wide range of diagnostic respiratory investigations.

The post requires cross site working (Luton and Dunstable Hospital and Bedford Hospital). You must possess a BSc in Clinical Physiology or Sports Science or equivalent BSc and appropriate prior experience working as a Clinical Respiratory Physiologist. RCCP/HPC registration eligibility is desirable.

Main duties of the job

Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

  1. To undertake a wide range of diagnostic respiratory/sleep diagnostics
  2. To analyse, interpret and provide written reports from diagnostic testing procedures.
  3. To work as an independent practitioner
  4. To provide internal and external education and training to consultants, specialist nurses and other health care workers through presentation and practical training.
  5. Develop, implement and maintain high standards of quality control and sterilisation/disinfection protocols.
  6. Maintain and repair highly complex, expensive equipment.
  7. To be responsible for the training and CPD of respiratory physiologists.
  8. To be responsible for the development and management of databases/ information systems
  9. To undertake performance reviews and monitoring of annual leave and sickness absence.
