Band 7 Ward Manager- Short Stay Surgical Unit (SSSU)

We are are looking for an additional enthusiastic and committed Ward Manager to manage a 24-bay Short-stay Surgical Unit at our Luton & Dunstable site. With the building of a new Acute Services Block with Day Ward provision, this is an exciting time to be joining Bedfordshire Hospitals.

Working closely with an adjacent Operating Theatres complex Management team and recovery Units, interest applicants must have strong leadership skills and be a dynamic individual with high level communication, negotiation and problem solving skills.

You will be a strong advocate for your SSSU team with excellent time management and organisation skills ensuring deadlines are met and the patient/staff experience is high on your priority list.

You could be an experienced ward manager with surgical skills looking for a change or an experienced Band 6 (preferably with current surgical or similar ward experience) looking to progress to the next step on the career ladder.

Main duties of the job

Band 7 Ward Manager- Short Stay Surgical Unit (SSSU)

*The post holder will have overall continuing clinical responsibility for managing the ward which includes its' finances, the deployment, delegation and supervision of all grades of staff and ensuring high standards of patient care and safety, within the resources available.

*The post holder will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the Trust provides high quality patient focused care within the department.

*The post holder will be responsible for ensuring a good learning environment for all staff, overseeing the provision of educational opportunities within this area.

*To act as an accountable role model through the provision of professional leadership and demonstration of competent, confident and innovative practice.

*To lead, promote and uphold principles of the Hygiene Code (Health & Social Care Act 2008), including: putting safety systems and structures in place for infection control, cleaning (environment/equipment etc), risk assessment, allocation of responsibilities, following policies/protocols, surveillance/monitoring and remedying deficiencies.

Management /Leadership

  • Be an expert clinical role model.

  • Manage all teams managers as Line manager- with rosters, sickness absence, disciplinaries, recruitment, appraisals.

Education/Training
