This is an exciting time for a Nurse Associate to join our Endoscopy team. We are currently introducing different clinical innovations. The post holder will have an important role in this large and dynamic team that includes a team of Clinical Endoscopists, Gastroenterology Consultants, Colorectal/Upper Surgical Consultants, a number of senior doctors and a large nursing and HCSW team.
You will need to be flexible to work a range of shifts, 0730 - 1800 hours, including Saturdays and take part in 24 hours on-call service when competent.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in the delivery of the endoscopy patient pathway including pre assessment, admission, intra- and peri-procedure care, recovery and discharge
- To develop and enhance your own skills and knowledge
- Apply legislation, policies and procedures correctly.
- Respect the patients dignity, privacy, wishes and beliefs.
- Participate in departmental communication, policy development, and continuous qualityimprovement and meetings
- Adhere to departmental decontamination programme for flexible endoscopes.
- Participate in the departmental audit program including decontamination, clinical standards,microbiological testing, patient experience etc.
- Undertake appropriate clinical activities as per own competence and within own sphere ofprofessional practice in the clinical areas of the service.
- Work with others to deliver a quality, safe decontamination endoscopy service.
- Assemble, check and prepare the appropriate surgical and recovery equipment, drugs andconsumables for a wide range of endoscopy procedures
- Co-ordinate the use of the supplies and equipment during an endoscopy list and in theimmediate post-operative phase of care ensuring the equipment is used in an appropriate andsafe manner.
- Conduct mandatory risk management environmental and equipment checks and patient riskassessments (VTE, Equipment checks, Endoscopy safety check list, microbiological tests etc.)against the supporting documentation.
- To acknowledge clinical limitations, seek advice appropriately, and act in a professional mannerin accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Practice, escalating any professionalconcerns.
- Assist the Endoscopist during the procedure.
- Provide continuous monitoring of the patients condition including pain and anxiety and level ofconsciousness, using the endoscopy pathway during the procedure and take appropriateaction to manage any arising complications.
- Provide safe monitored recovery for patients following conscious sedation and generalanaesthesia once received from theatre recovery.
- Complete all written documentation in a timely manner and to an acceptable level ensuringothers do the same.
- Communicate appropriately with patients and others involved in the care of the patient
- Promote good practice consistent with legislation, best practice and Endoscopy policies.
- Monitor, order, receive and check stock items including consumables, equipment and drugs.
- Ensure any incidents or complaints are fully documented and that the appropriate manager isinformed.
- Participate in regular communication related to service development and improvement.
- Contribute to continuous service and practice improvement including audit, patient experiencesurvey, review of incidents and complaints and newly issued guidance. Evaluate theirimplementation to maintain and enhance service delivery.
- The NA will work to the level of their experience, assessed competence and skills acquiredwithin their post. He/ she should not undertake any task that he/she is unfamiliar with. The NAwill require immediate and direct supervision in areas of unfamiliar work.
- To act as patient advocate where necessary.
- When service needs and staffing levels in the Trust require the staff member may bedeployed to the wards to work at times of extreme pressures.
- Participate in a program of teaching and training for all staff, including mandatory training. Allstaff will be expected to participate in the competency base training provided as induction andon-going development to enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes.
