Job summary

A rare opportunity has arisen within the palliative physiotherapy team for a Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner. To work alongside physiotherapy colleagues to provide excellent therapy care to this complex group of patients.

You will be expected to practice within the specialist Palliative Service to provide highly skilled specialised support within the Community Palliative Physiotherapy Team. Work on your own within scope of practice using relevant qualifications and training and have sufficient experience to represent Therapy within this team and develop the service.

Main duties of the job

To practice within the specialist Palliative Service to provide highly skilled specialised support within the Community Palliative Physiotherapy Team. Work on your own within scope of practice using relevant qualifications and training and have sufficient experience to represent Therapy within this team and develop the service.

Hold own caseload of Community Palliative patients who may have complex or multi-pathology conditions, carry out treatments, deciding when it is necessary to refer to a senior Therapist. Have advanced counselling, motivational and communication skills to overcome barriers of understanding or complex emotional/physical needs of patients, carers and relatives, in order to ensure the best management of Palliative patients.

To represent the Palliative Physiotherapy Team at Bedford Day Hospice. Organise and run an exercise group for Palliative patients attending the Day Hospice.

  • Practical and teaching knowledge to NVQ level 3
  • Completed Therapy competency training for non-qualified staff; e.g. Progression of mobility, Individual exercise programmes etc.
  • Further knowledge and skills development to BTEC or equivalent
  • Good general education to GCSE or equivalent
  • Attended courses to assist similar job roles

Desirable

  • Evidence of interest in the Health Care professions

  • Substantial experience as a Band 3 or equivalent
  • Experience in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • In depth working knowledge of patient conditions related to area of work.
