Job summary

Following the merger of Luton & Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Bedford Hospital NHS Trust in April 2020, Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has implemented an innovative and service focussed management structure, with 36 Clinical Service Lines reporting directly to the Executive Team. An opening has arisen for an operational General Manager to lead, in partnership with the Clinical Directors and Head of Nursing, the Acute and Emergency Medicine service line.

This successful candidate will have experience of working at a senior level in an emergency and acute setting and will report directly to the COO/Deputy CEO. The postholder will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and safe day to day running of services within the service line, delivery of the financial target and ensuring business continuity and resilient service delivery, supported by robust operational and capacity planning.

Main duties of the job

The postholder is accountable for the operational delivery of the clinical services, including two Emergency Departments and Acute Medicine services and developing a service strategy in conjunction with clinical leads, setting clear goals to ensure delivery of excellent clinical care. Accountable for delivery of the service line financial target and ensuring continual improvement. Responsible for ensuring the smooth and safe day to day running of services within the service line, ensuring business continuity and resilient service delivery, supported by robust operational and capacity planning.
