An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and experienced Senior Physiotherapist to join our acute respiratory team at Luton and Dunstable Hospital.The respiratory team cover 2 intensive care units, NIV unit and 2 respiratory wards. Along side clinical work the successful applicant will manage the on call rota, supervise junior physiotherapists and partake in service improvement projects.
The successful applicant will be joint team lead and therefore will be responsible for the provision of a highly specialist, evidence based physio service for respiratory patients within our hospital.
Main duties of the job
- To provide a specialist respiratory physiotherapy service within the field of respiratory medicine and Critical Care on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
- To take a team leader role to manage, develop and evaluate the physiotherapy service within this speciality in close liaison with the respiratory therapy service leads.
- To be the lead physiotherapy clinician for the non-invasive ventilation (NIV) service, Critical Care and medical respiratory out-patients. Supervision is largely self-driven through attendance at conferences, courses or through seeking the advice of peers external to the Trust.
- To perform highly advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and highly complex physical and psychological conditions, to determine a diagnosis and formulate and deliver an appropriate, effective individualised treatment programme.
- To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
- Plan, supervise, educate and assess physiotherapy students on placement, within the medical respiratory unit. Work closely with the university and comply with all standards required for the degree level qualification.
- Design and undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and team's clinical practice and improve service delivery. Make recommendations and lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols as agreed with the Deputy Head of Therapies.
