Job summary

Assist in providing confidential, holistic sexual and contraceptive health care and education to clients attending the service in a welcoming, sensitive and non-judgemental manner.

Work effectively as part of the wider Multidisciplinary Team and support the Senior Nurses and Clinical Operations Lead in achieving the service, Directorate and Trust's aims and objectives.

Demonstrate a flexible approach to days/hours worked and actively participate in changes to planned rota to ensure that service has appropriate nursing cover for all clinics/sites.

Main duties of the job

Assist with individualised care/obtaining relevant samples for a designated group of patients in accordance with achieved competencies and scope of practice ie asymptomatic screening

  1. Understand informal consent and obtain/record permission before undertaking activities with clients
  2. Identify Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) sexual assault, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Child/Adult Safeguarding concerns and follow reporting/management protocols
  3. Manage Screen & Go clients
  4. Perform venepuncture
  5. Perform microscopy
  6. Assist clinicians prepare for/carry out procedures/sample taking. Process samples
  7. Chaperone during physical examinations
  8. Keep accurate, concise records
  9. Demonstrate good housekeeping, correct disposal of waste and reporting of hazards.
  10. Provide basic sexual, contraceptive and HIV health promotion and advice.
  11. Manage own time effectively and perform allocated tasks within a reasonable time frame
  12. Register/book clients if required, undertake related administrative tasks
  13. Prepare clinical area and equipment for use. Restock supplies and keep area safe, clean and tidy
  14. Identify and take appropriate actions as per level of competence for any untoward incident/accident or risk. Report as soon as possible to the nurse in charge
  15. Assist in the cleaning/maintenance of clinical equipment and report faults, breakages or missing items.
