Job summary

The trust security team is an integral part of the trust services working 24/7/365.

Your roleTo act as the first point of contact for any security related issues.To manage the staff employed as security guards to provide the best possible experience for all users (patients, visitors, and staff).To monitor and coordinate the reaction to any alarm activations.To provide reports and monitoring information as required in order to produce performance reports.

Main duties of the job

The Christie is an international leader in cancer research and development and the largest cancer treatment centre of its kind in Europe.

The Facilities division has a vacancy for a band 4 Security Supervisor role within the Security team . All work will be supported by risk assessments.

The Security Supervisor will provide professional service and operate within the values and standards of the trust.

Job responsibilities

Security Carry out security control room activities. To act as the point of contact for basic cyber security awareness reporting suspicious USB devices unfamiliar e-mail activity or social engineering attempts e.g. phone call, e-mails requesting access to systems. Ensure that team members rotate through all aspects of the role on an equal basis. Security Portering Switchboard Monitor, access, intruder, fire, medical gas alarms and fridge alarms and respond to all alarm activations as required in a safe manner, investigate their cause, and escalate any findings as required. Act as first point of contact for any police enquiries. To act as an ambassador for the trust by proactively offering assistance to patients, visitors who appear lost or in distress demonstrating a caring and reassuring presence particularly during out of hours periods. Respond to all calls for security/fire assistance/incidents fire alert calls, however received and take action to resolve in line with the emergency procedures, to minimise risk to life and assets and contact the relevant authority when necessary and report the incident to the Head of Security. Ensure fire escape routes and equipment are in working order and fully accessible at all times and current relevant fire legislation is being complied with. Assist Medical and Nursing staff in the restraint of patients using the minimum of force (following the successful completion of the Physical Control & Restraint Techniques Training Program with urgency and efficiency) recording all details. To ensure the secure and evidentially sound handling storage and downloading of CCTV footage and body worn camera footage maintaining a clear chain of evidence in liner with policies and procedures, best practice and current legislation. To ensure all team members under your supervision strictly adhere to data protection and GDPR protocols regarding viewing recording and sharing of CCTV images and radio communications reporting breaches immediately. Record all occurrences of security interest in logbooks, complete written reports including Incident reports, Self-Audits. This may involve the preparation and taking of witness statements. On occasion this may result in it being necessary to attend court as a witness. Patrol on foot the areas specified in duty instructions, recording all items of security interest in logbook, and reporting any corrective action required as necessary. Assist the car park team as necessary. Fully investigate crimes, taking statements and writing full reports and making recommendations to prevent a reoccurrence and provide crime prevention advice to clients. Ensure all keys in CCTV control room are accounted for at all times. Regularly check that the building is secure outside normal office hours by carrying out irregular patrols of all Trust facilities Internally & Externally and record all patrols on guard tour ensuring any unusual events occurrences are escalated as required. Carry out a full range of security duties in accordance with agreed policies and procedures. Maintain effective communication links through the correct use of radio, bleep systems and correct terminology. Issue emergency radios as required in the event of telephone bleep system failure. Lock and alarm departments as required, external doors & gates as laid down in Trust lockdown procedures and ensure the Hospital is secure at all times. Assist in the search for missing patients and if necessary, escalate the search by contacting local police. Maintain any scene of crimes. Provide a first point of contact for fire brigade and emergency ambulance service. In accordance with the major incident plan, carry out duties as detailed. Provide an escort service to members of staff moving around the hospital after dark as requested. Provide an escort service for the movement of cash and valuables. Ensure all emergency routes and one-way systems are free at all times. Carry out a HO/TO with the oncoming off going supervisor as per the HO/TO form. Switchboard Ensure adequate rota for the switchboard cover. Ensure that contact / on-call lists are kept up to date. Ensure all operators are competent in use of switchboard equipment. Ensure that all team are able to operate the emergency bleep (2222 call) system. Portering Carry out the full range of portering activities as required. Transport patients between wards and departments. Collect and deliver mail, specimens, blood products and samples as required. Transport bodies to the hospital mortuary assisting the mortuary with movement of bodies as necessary. Transport full or empty gas cylinders between departments, wards, and storage areas Removal of dirty linen directly from clinical areas. This must be taken to the linen collection area ready for collection at the loading bay by an external contractor. Distribute clean linen OOHs if required. HR Carry out return to work interviews following periods of absence. Carry out MOA interviews to stage 1. Ensure that staff attend all mandatory and role specific training as required (e-learning and face-to-face), and all training is recorded for compliance. Escalate any HR issues to Line manager. To supervise security team on a day-to-day basis. To carry out counselling and other disciplinary matters as required, and records kept. Manage and plan own area of work. Manage and plan detailed tasks for team members. Carry out annual PDR reviews. To promote team wellbeing by conducting debriefs following significant or traumatic incidents e.g. crash calls, restraint incidents, major incidents directing staff to appropriate support services. Car Parking Provide car parking cover OOHs. Validate car park tickets as required OOHs. Maintain correct access to service roads via barriers. Misc. Ensure that all staff act in an appropriate manner at all times following trust policies. Ensure staff are using BWCCTV as required. Use of IT systems to receive, create, carry out tasks. Maintain all equipment and uniform supplied in a clean and presentable manner, full uniform must be worn at all times while on duty in line with the uniform protocol. Perform other such duties that may be considered as reasonable in the execution of the Estates and Facilities function.
