Job summary
The successful candidate will join the colorectal clinical oncology team as an enhanced practitioner and will take a key role in co-ordinating and promoting continuity of care, ensuring the patient knows who to access for information and advice for colorectal cancer patients at The Christie. The successful candidate will be a knowledgeable expert, who understands the process and stages of the patient carepathway specific to the disease type. And will co-ordinate aspects of radiotherapy for patients in the given disease group by effectively managing and monitoring the waiting list and decreasing waiting times to maintain a patient-focused service.
Part of the role is to provide support (both psychologically and emotionally), to this group of patients, as well as being able to educate and provide exceptional standards of care as an independent practitioner for patients with in the given disease group referred for radiotherapy and their carers from initial consultation through to treatment delivery and beyond.
Working with the wider colorectal MDT and being able to promote research and collaborative working is key within this role.
Main duties of the job
o To work autonomously with other specialist disciplines. To streamline patient care and improve access for patients, both within and outside The Christie, ensuring that radiotherapy is carried in accordance to current recommended timescales.o Plan and manage own workload and the workload of the service, in a flexible manner, ensuring that service provision meets the need of patients.o Participate in the direct clinical management of patients. This includes history taking, systematic physical examination and requisition of appropriate clinical investigations, formulation of clinical management plans and re-evaluation of implemented treatment plans as appropriate.o Work with the clinical team to formulate clinical decisions and complex treatment plans to manage acute radiotherapy toxicity and psychosocial issues by responding to actual and potential health problems appropriately.o For agreed patient groups, work as an independent non-medical prescriber, And accept and make appropriate referrals from/to other professional colleagues.
